Because of the high interest but poor advertising of the last discussion group (religion in politics), it will happen (again?) on Thursday the 17th of September, 2pm in the Harry Medlin room (south).
Hopefully we'll have a few more people than last time, and this will allow us to start (on time).
See you there!
Must Science declare a holy war on religeon?
This is an interesting article from the LA Times, discussing whether it is productive for 'New Atheists' in the USA to follow Richard Dawkin's 'hardline' approach to faith and science (i.e. there is no place in science for religeon and the scientifically literate should reject all forms of religion) and if science and religion can be compatible.
This early paragraph (answering the question 'who will read Dawkin's latest book') caught my eye:

The next in our series of discussion groups is 'religion in politics'.
It is on THIS THURSDAY (3rd of September) in the Harry Medlin South room, Union Building at 2pm.
The last discussion group was really good, and I encourage you all to come along and have your say!
The poor and illiterate women of this country - the real Muslims - are against it," she [Hadja Sapiato Dembele of the National Union of Muslim Women's Associations] added.

A quick post to get something off my chest (and to please our webmaster it would seem ;D)
Why is there a godless club on campus?
This question was raised by someone in a conversation I overheard the other night, and is something we're often asked, so I thought I'd write a public note as to why we exist.
Well, put simply our founding president (Ash) realised there were all sorts of clubs that catered for everyone on campus, except one for godless people. So he started one.
"Religion in Education: a necessary evil?"
This will be the 2nd seminar put on by godless for 2009 and will be a discussion about the role of religion in education.
Our speaker for this event will be Scott Sharrad who hosted our previous seminar.
Scott is studying Music Education and has very strong views about education and religion and atheism in general.
This is shaping up to be a lively event!
